The Salkantay Mountain (6271 meters/20471 feet above sea level), part of the Vilcanota mountain range, was called “Apu” by the Incas and was worshipped as a deity of guidance and protection. Salkantay looks over a great part of the Sacred Valley, and the spectacular Vilcanota Mountains are the main starting point for trekking programs. The hole are is filled with majestic, natural landscapes and attractive Inca archaeological sites.

Day 1: Cusco – Sayllapata – Soyrococha.

We will pick you up in the morning from your selected hotel. We will leave by private transport to Mollepata, at 2800 m.a.s.l. We will have a beautiful scenic trip through Limatambo, and stops for panoramic views of the Apurimac valley, where we can have breakfast in a traditional restaurant. After that, we’ll drive for 1 hour until we get to the trailhead called Sayllapata (3200 m.a.s.l.), there we´ll meet our muleteers ant trek staff, after 2 and a half hours of hiking through the traditional Andean communities, like Cruzpata, Challacancha, until we get to Soraypampa (3750 m.a.s.l.), where we will have our lunch. Then after 4 hours we will arrive at our first campsite, which is in Soyrococha (4200 m.a.s.l.).

Day 2: Soyrococha – Huayraqmachay – Collpapampa

The second day we will ascend to the highest point of our trek, the Salkantay pass, at 4600 m.a.s.l. From this point we can appreciate the specieal views of the Salkantay mountain, a stunning snow capped mountain (6271 m.a.s.l.), 3 hours of walking with spectacular views of the Humantay and Huayanay mountains, and small lakes as we arrive at our lunch site in Huayraqmachay (3700 m.a.s.l.), then we´ll head down for 3 and a half hours until we reach our second campsite, Collpapampa (2600 m.a.s.l.).

Day 3: Collpapampa – Playa – Lucmabamba

On the third day, our group will walk for 4 hours, a downhill easy hike. We will walk into the high jungle niche called Ceja de Selva, where coffee, coca and fruit plantations can be observed. We will have time to bathe in a waterfall, take amazing pictures, and with luck see the Peruvian National bird, the cock of the rock. We stop in Playa (2250 m.a.s.l.) for lunch and then continue the hike to our Lucmabamba campsite.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes.

We will start our hike early in the morning, and make our way up to Llactapata, this being a small archaeological site, after a well-deserved rest, we start to descend towards the Hydro. Here we will have our lunch, and then we will walk for two and a half hours until we reach Aguas Calientes (2000 m.a.s.l.). Finally spend the night there in a nice hotel.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco.

Early walk or bus to the Machupicchu citadel, here we will have a guided tour and plenty of free time to explore the citadel. There is also an optional climb to the Huayna Picchu mountain, also known as the Moon Temple, or the Sun Gate. After that we take the bust down to Aguas Calientes in order to take the train back to Cusco, arrive and get taken back to our hotel.
