This is an excellent 2-day alternative to the Inca Trail and offers the chance to see a nice Inca complex and little-travelled parts of the Andes and the Sacred Valley. Finally the path will lead us to Ollantaytambo, from where we will take the train to the ancient Machupicchu citadel.
Huchuyqosqo is a towering piece of architecture that includes a large open ceremonial center. Here we can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota river, and the snow-capped mountains – the highest peaks of the Andes.

Day 1: Cusco – Tambomachay – Huchuy qosqo
Pick up early in the morning from your Cusco hotel and go the Tambomachay, where the head of the trail is. We will pass by a few small communities, like Qorichocha and Pumamarka, where we can see the local farmers working their lands with potato and bean crops, as their ancestors did. This little valley is very beautiful, with a lot of native trees and flowers. After 2 hours of walking up, we reach the Pumamarka archaeological site. It is a one hour walk from there to the Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo, where we will stop for lunch. Recently restored by archaeologists, located at 3450 m.a.s.l., we can appreciate many beautiful mountains from there, such as Chicon, Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Waccaywilca and Veronica. After we arrive and have had enough time to rest, relax and recover with a nutritious packed lunch, we will be ready for our guided tour to visit and explore this amazing archaeological site. After this, we will start our descent down to Lamay town, going down an extraordinary trail where a private car will be waiting for us and drive us to Ollantaytambo for one hour. Here we will take the 7:00 pm train to Aguas Calientes, we will arrive in 2 hours and spend the night in the hotel.
