In a cave located in the mountain in Huayna Picchu, there is the so-called “Temple of the Moon”. The mountain of Huayna Picchu is located at the Machu Picchu site, on the other side of the Machu Picchu valley.
No one knows what was the reason why they built it, but it is believed to have been a place of worship or funerals. Some of the walls are finely carved in rocks. Although it is known as the Temple of the Moon, many scholars say it has nothing to do with the moon. Some simply call it “the Great Cavern” because of this and because it is not known if it was originally called the Temple of the Moon.
