TRAVEL TIPS

HEALTH

It is advisable to visit the doctor between 8 and 4 weeks before traveling to Peru and get the necessary vaccines for prevention:
Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, malaria, yellow fever, rabies, tetanus and bring a card that proves vaccines
Buying travel insurance is a very good idea, since most tourists at some point in the trip are usually sick, at least traveler's diarrhea, which is a very common disease, for which we recommend extreme caution with intake of food and water, always good to have on hand an antibiotic and an antidiarrheal. It is recomendable to have a basic first aid kit, containing:
Antibiotics, anti-diarrhea, acetaminophen, anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, antibacterial ointment, cortisone, bandage,, paper tape, thermometer, insect repellent, acetozalamid.
The altitud sickness is also other thing to consider, people who ascend rapidly from lower to higer altitude could be affect for some symptoms as headches, vomiting, nauseas, dizziness and insomnia, if those symptoms persist for more than 36 hours, the best will be to see a doctor. To prevent altitude sickness the best is to stay at least two days in places over 1000 m.a.s.l. Other alternative is start taking Diamox (acetazolamide) 2 days before to arrive, but ask first your doctor about the possible side effects.
