The Salkantay Mountain (6,271 m./20,471 ft. AMSL) part of the Vilcanota mountain range, was called "Apu" by the Inkas and was worshipped as a deity of guidance and protection. Salkantay dominates a great part of the Sacred Valley, and the spectacular Vilcanota Mountains are the principal starting point for trekking programs. The whole area is filled with majestic natural landscapes and attractive Inka archeological sites.
The Salkantay-Inka Trail trek is a great adventure. At 6,271 m./20,574 ft. AMSL. Salkantay is Peru’s second highest mountain. On this trek we walk and camp along this majestic mountain before we turn toward the jungle and make our way along the ancient Inka Trail to the Inka citadel of Machupicchu.
